Hi. My name is Bren Donohue, and this is my blog page about microbreweries. More specifically, a brewery that I think is awesome will be highlighted in a post each week. Once posted, you can feel free to say what you think about that brewery.

Saranac

Saranac is brewed by the Matt Brewing Company, which is based out of the Adirondack Mountains in New York. The best part about this brewing company is that it is still a family-run business. Anyway, Saranac is the name of the brewery that I like. The beers have a nice smooth taste and go down very easily. Personally, I think of Saranac as a good barbeque beer. More specifically, my favorite Saranac brews are the Black & Tan, Lager, and Black Forest. Of the three, the Saranac Black & Tan is my favorite by a long shot. The beer is just a solid brew full of taste, and it happens to be very smooth as well. While I have never been to the actual brewery, I hear that it is a very nice place to visit. Anyone who finds themselves in the Adirondacks should definitely check Saranac out. Another great feature about Saranac is that they have extended the name well beyond beer. For example, Saranac also produces several fountain drinks under the same name. I feel that this further exemplifies the family-orientedness of this brewery. Either way, the beer is great when push comes to shove. If you have never tried a Saranac brew, I seriously recommend the Black & Tan. I will almost guarantee that Saranac will not leave you disappointed. So, give Saranac a shot, and hopefully you will have a new favorite brew. Also, check out the mini poll that will be added to the side of this site shortly. You can vote on your favorite brewery from the month of September. It should be pretty cool once I get it up and running full time.

I have never been up to the Saranac brewing companie but I have been to the Ariondacks. It is a very beautiful area and the mountians up there are amazing. I am not really into Black and tan beers. I trust your opinion on it is one of the best black and tans around and I will now probally go to the store to see iit and check it out. The only balck and tan beer that I have trited was yeungling. Even though it is my favorite beer I wasnt to thrilled about the taste. I have recently became a manager and have to sometime order special beers and I have to say your website has been very useful. Another aspect I like about this brewery was it is family owned. Many people can not say that now and for some of the best beer to be brewed by a family owned business is a great thing. Keep up the good work.

Hey, I've had their mix pack made for the summer. It's really really good. I can't remember specifically which ones were in it, but there was one that I loved. It had hints of raspberries and blueberries in it. It was a perfect summer beer, one of the best I've ever had in fact. Unfortuntaly , I think it is a seasonal brew and won't be able to find it again until next summer. All in all, I think Saranac is a pretty solid brew company and one that I purchase every now and then. It's definitely something that I would recommend to other people to drink. I'll have to see if they have a seasonal beer out for the winter season. If they do I'm sure it will be good, but I don't know if it will live up to Sam Adam's WinterLager which is my favorite beer.

Hey Bren,

I have never been to the Adirondack Mountains before, only the Smoky Mountains outside of Knoxville, Tennessee. I like how you mentioned it is still a family owned and operated business. The names of the Saranac beers don’t sound that exciting, unlike other brews you have mentioned. I think it is good that the Saranac have expanded their business into soft drinks in order to diversify their company. They must have a big plant if they can operate that way. Maybe if I go up to the Adirondacks I will try this brew. Is it sold anywhere else besides for in the mountains? I would be interested to find out, I can’t seem to find it on their website. Matt Brewing Company has done a good job with their business it seems like. Great posting.

Hey Bren, I know nothing about breweries but my great grandfather started the Shaeffer Brewing Company in PA a long time ago. This company was passed down to my grandfather and when my mom was a growing up the company would deliver 10 cases to their house every friday afternoon...when i found this out i began to see where i got my love of a good beer from.

The company was sold soon afterwards and I have not had a Shaeffer in a long time, but I do not remember it to be the most tasty beer that I have ever had. In fact, I remember that it was very good at all, comperable to beast light, which is not one of my particular favorites. I think that this is a good idea for a blog. I feel like not many kids who consider themselves 'beer lovers' really know anything about beer. Everybody here simply drinks the cheapest beer they can find, or some type of generic light beer that has no taste. Where have all of the cowboys gone?
